Why it mattered

A passive optical network (PON) connects many subscribers over shared fibre, and the operator has to configure and monitor all of its equipment. The vendor needed a management system that runs on the equipment itself and speaks the interfaces operators already use.

How it works

An embedded, distributed management system. My part:

  • The system core and auxiliary modules in C.
  • SNMP modules, so standard network management tools can see and control the equipment.
  • A command line interface built with klish and Lua.
